Another Kind of Community

In reading Dani’s article, “Community Online and in Person,” I think he brings up some thought provoking ideas that the class should hear. He brings up this idea of a “community without boundaries.” I wonder if this idea can completely shift the future definition of a community. If more people participate in the “community without boundaries” than there must be a different means by which the community is categorized than by proximity. If the internet is the bases for a community, than communication must be a foundation to that community. Dani’s idea can allow there to be studies strictly on the element of communication in a community.

However, there might be a sense of not complete communication because with the internet, there is much room for just displaying things that you want to display. It might have the potential to have people that know others in person become offended because a person portrays themselves on the internet as something they are not. I guess though there are always downsides to new ideas and avenues, but I find it interesting that maybe this avenue will unlock

Dani brings up the idea of having a community that has a combination of both proximity and an online community; I wonder what actions would then follow. The thoughts and ideas bounced back and forth from the individual members of the community to others would then be accessible to all rather than just to those specific members people converse with face to face dialogue. The more communication there is, obviously, the more a person gets to know one another and then becomes a person’s friend rather then being a stranger to fear. Opening the lines of communication helps dissolve the largest pollutant of a community, fear.
